Check what 'limited' means before you switch on the Campaign Agent

Campaign Agent is GA on Advanced from October 2026 with limits, and extra agentic campaigns cost more. Settle the allowance and the guardrails first.

Salesforce's Campaign Agent page states that "Campaign Agent will become generally available in Marketing Cloud Next Advanced by October 2026 with some limitations", that "limited Campaign Agent capabilities like agentic campaigns and agentic content will be available via Marketing Cloud Next Advanced", and that "additional agentic campaigns and content generations will be available for an additional cost". The Marketing Cloud innovations page lists it as GA October 2026. Campaign Agent is the marketed name for what the Winter '27 release notes call the Marketing Goals Agent: you set goals, budgets, guardrails and autonomy; it assembles audiences, content and channels, and prioritises or suppresses sends on customer context.

Who this applies to

  • Marketing Cloud Next Advanced customers; Growth is not mentioned on the availability page
  • Marketing leaders planning the first agent-run campaign for late 2026 or early 2027
  • Admins who will own the agent's data access, approvals and consumption

Why it matters

An agent that creates and runs campaigns autonomously also consumes allowance autonomously. "Some limitations" and "additional cost" are the two phrases on the page that will decide whether the first quarter with the agent is a success story or a surprise invoice. The governance decisions are the same ones every agent needs, and they are cheaper to make before the first brief goes in.

Try it

  1. Confirm in Setup and with your account team that the Campaign Agent is enabled for your Advanced org, and get in writing how many agentic campaigns and content generations your contract includes and what the next ones cost.
  2. Pick one campaign with a measurable outcome for the first run, and set the agent to recommend-only: it proposes audience, content and channel, a marketer approves. Autonomy widens after the first cycle, not before.
  3. Make the seven governance decisions explicit: the outcome, the data the agent may use, its autonomy level, which actions need human approval, when it escalates, the metrics, and the named owner.
  4. Point it at grounding it can use: brand guidelines the platform can read, approved assets in CMS, and a consent model that is actually correct, because the agent sends to whatever the consent object says.
  5. Track consumption weekly for the first quarter next to the campaign results, so the cost per outcome is known before the allowance runs out.

Example use case

A retailer on Advanced plans a December promotion as its first agent-run campaign. Before the brief, the ops lead gets the included allowance confirmed by the account team, the brand team publishes guidelines and ten approved assets to CMS, and the compliance lead signs off the data boundary. The agent runs in recommend-only mode for the first send, the marketer approves, and the team reviews consumption and results together in January before widening autonomy.

Prerequisites, limitations and risks

  • Marketing Cloud Next Advanced; the availability statement names no other edition
  • Agentforce and consumption terms in your contract; the public page says extras are chargeable but not at what rate
  • Brand guidelines, approved content and a reconciled consent model for the agent to work from
  • The seven decisions in the linked Salesforce Ben piece, made and written down
