Plan around the marketing agents that are GA, not the ones in pilot

Goals and Content agents are in pilot; Campaign Creation and Personalization Decisioning are GA. Which to build on, and the decisions to make first.

Salesforce's announcements draw a clear line. Generally available since June 2025: Agentforce Campaign Creation, Personalization Decisioning, Lead Generation and Lead Management. In pilot as at the Winter '27 announcement: the Marketing Goals Agent (set goals, budgets, guardrails and autonomy limits; the agent picks campaign, channel, content and timing per customer) and the Content Agent (brand-controlled multilingual content for email, SMS and push with approval workflows). The pilot status is Salesforce's own wording, in June 2026 and again in September 2026.

Who this applies to

  • Marketing leaders building a 2026-27 plan that includes AI agents in Marketing Cloud Next
  • Edition: not stated in the announcements. Agent availability may also depend on Agentforce licensing, which the sources do not itemise
  • Admins who will own agent configuration and data access

Why it matters

Demos of the Goals Agent are the most persuasive thing in Salesforce's marketing story, and it is not generally available. A roadmap that assumes it for the next quarter will slip. The GA capabilities are less dramatic and more useful this year, and the governance work is the same whichever agent you end up with, so it can start now.

Try it

  1. Separate your plan into two columns: what is GA (Campaign Creation, Personalization Decisioning, Lead Generation, Lead Management) and what is pilot (Goals Agent, Content Agent). Commit dates only in the first column.
  2. Name one outcome the first agent must move, for example faster campaign production or a lift in a specific conversion, and the measure you will judge it by.
  3. Decide, in writing, which customer data the agent may use and which it may not. Bring the people who own data, security and compliance into that decision.
  4. Choose the autonomy level per agent: recommend only, act within narrow limits, or act freely. Then list the actions that always need a human approval, and who gives it.
  5. Define when the agent must escalate to a person: low confidence, a business exception, a compliance concern, or customer behaviour outside the expected pattern.
  6. Assign a named owner for agent oversight who reviews performance, keeps the rules current and decides when permissions widen or tighten.
  7. Ask your account team whether the pilot agents are open to your org and what pilot participation entails. Do not build a launch date on the answer.

Example use case

A financial-services marketing team wants agents in its 2027 plan. It commits to Agentforce Campaign Creation for the Q1 product launch, with the agent limited to drafting and a marketer approving every send. Data access is limited to the marketing data space, escalation goes to the campaign lead, and the ops manager owns oversight. The Goals Agent goes on the plan as an evaluation item with no date, to be revisited when Salesforce announces general availability.

Prerequisites, limitations and risks

  • Agent availability as stated by Salesforce: Campaign Creation, Personalization Decisioning, Lead Generation and Lead Management GA (June 2025); Goals Agent and Content Agent in pilot (June and September 2026). Check the current status before you plan
  • Agentforce licensing and consumption are not covered by the sources used here. Confirm what your contract includes
  • Data 360 underpins agent decisions in Marketing Cloud Next; data boundaries you set for agents have to be reflected in Data 360 permissions and data spaces
  • Edition requirements are not stated in the sources

Documented behaviour above comes from the sources listed below. Availability varies by edition, SKU and region - confirm entitlements in your own org before you rely on a feature.
