Winter '26 for Marketing Cloud: sandboxes at last, and Engagement gets a plus

Winter '26 for Marketing Cloud: Next sandboxes, path experiments, push and WhatsApp upgrades, a content agent, and what Engagement+ actually offers.

Winter '26 rolled into production from September 2025 and reached general availability on 13 October 2025. It was the first full release under the Marketing Cloud Next name, and the first to give Engagement customers something concrete to call a bridge.

Two items changed how a project runs: sandboxes for Marketing Cloud Next, and path experiments with automatic winner selection. The rest is channel depth, a content agent, and a larger reporting surface.

Sandboxes for Marketing Cloud Next

Marketing Cloud Next features could now be tested away from production, with changes promoted from the sandbox. The notes carry one line that matters more than the feature: sandboxes can consume credits for Data Cloud, messaging and Salesforce Personalization.

Path experiments with a winner picked for you

Path Experiment let a marketer test variations in content, channel and cadence inside a flow, and Automated Path Selection chose the winner on metrics such as email clicks, registrations or purchases. Salesforce placed automated selection in the Advanced editions.

Channels: push, WhatsApp, SMS

  • Push notifications: a basic type with media and interactive buttons, and a carousel with up to six swipeable cards, with metrics for sends, deliveries, views and interactions.
  • WhatsApp: click and open rates on the Insights dashboard; interactive messages using WhatsApp flows, location sharing and call-to-action buttons; carousels backed by product catalogues.
  • SMS: additional countries, including Hong Kong and Singapore.
  • Landing pages and forms: hidden fields, default values, merge fields, HTML templates, and external web forms connected to Salesforce objects without code, with submissions able to trigger flows.

A content agent, and blocks you reuse

The Content Builder Agent drafted, revised and optimised subject lines, SMS and body copy, delivered as an Agent Builder template in which an admin sets its role and guidance. Reusable content blocks put text, images, links and buttons into workspace templates so banners, footers and legal text are built once.

Reporting and Marketing Intelligence

The deliverability dashboard gained filters by mailbox provider and by promotional versus transactional message, with failure reasons per provider. An Advanced Insights dashboard surfaced top-performing segments and activity trends across channels. Campaign creation flows became editable in Flow Builder, with a Generate Campaign Insights action to summarise performance.

Marketing Intelligence widened attribution to custom conversion data sources, added custom pipeline schedules and on-demand reprocessing, pipeline versioning without downtime, and the ability to pause low-performing Google Ads from within the tool.

What Marketing Cloud Engagement got: a plus

The release notes said Engagement customers would gain access to select Marketing Cloud Next functionality, naming Agentforce, reporting and automation, with details to follow from mid-September 2025. Salesforce's 10 September 2025 blog filled that in: Marketing Cloud Engagement+ editions carrying Digital Wallet, Smarter Journey Orchestration in Flow and Marketing Performance dashboards, generally available October 2025, with the assurance that you keep your current implementation with no disruption while gaining the ability to explore new innovations.

Account Engagement

Six Agentforce actions to update prospects and manage nurture campaigns from anywhere in Salesforce, and dynamic lists fed from a Data Cloud home org through Data Cloud One's companion connection.

What we would have done that quarter

  1. Stand up a sandbox path, Production first, and put a number on sandbox credit consumption before refreshing.
  2. Run one path experiment per journey on a metric your volume can resolve.
  3. Write the content agent's guidance before enabling it, and keep agent copy in the approval flow.
  4. Lock brand blocks and make everything else swappable.
  5. If you run Engagement, read the Engagement+ contents against your renewal date and decide what you would actually use.

One caveat on everything above

Release notes describe what shipped, not what is switched on in your org. Availability varies by edition, SKU and region, Automated Path Selection was placed in the Advanced editions, and sandboxes and channels consume credits. Check your own entitlements in Setup before you plan around anything here, or ask us and we will check with you.
