Winter '27 for Marketing Cloud: two agents in pilot, and the plumbing that ships

Winter '27 goes live 12 October. The marketing agents are in pilot; completion actions, a deliverability score and cross-channel scripting are what to act on.

Winter '27 is generally available on 12 October 2026, with production upgrade weekends running from 4 September to 9 October. If you have a preview sandbox, you have had the release since late August. If you do not, this is the last fortnight to look before it lands.

The announcement is about agents. The release notes are mostly about plumbing. Both matter, but not in the same quarter. The two marketing agents Salesforce is leading with are in pilot; the operational changes underneath them are the ones you can plan around now.

The two agents everyone will talk about are in pilot

Agentforce Marketing Goals Agent is the headline. You set goals, budgets, guardrails and how much autonomy the agent has; it chooses campaign, channel, content and timing per customer, orchestrates across channels and optimises in flight, with visibility into what it is doing. Trailhead refers to the same capability as the Campaign Agent.

Agentforce Content Agent is the second. Describe the campaign and it produces brand-consistent, multilingual content for email, SMS and mobile push from one authoring workspace, working from your brand guidelines, campaign briefs and media assets, with brand controls and an approval workflow built in.

Salesforce described both as in pilot in June, and the Winter '27 announcement cites results from pilot customers rather than general availability. Read the release notes for your edition before assuming either is switched on for you.

Completion actions are back, and that simplifies a lot of flows

Marketing Cloud Next brings back completion actions as a core capability. Notifying a user, sending an autoresponder or assigning a lead no longer needs a dedicated flow built for the purpose.

Deliverability gets a score and an alarm

Email Deliverability Health monitors delivery across mailbox providers, rolls it into a 0 to 100 Email Deliverability Health Score and sends automated alerts when a critical threshold is reached.

Scripting goes cross-channel

Summer '26 put AMPscript into Next for email. Winter '27 extends Handlebars and AMPscript to SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, in-app and push, and lets you reuse personalisation logic across channels instead of rebuilding the same rules in each. Landing pages get the same scripting support, plus custom HTML forms on landing pages.

Smaller items worth knowing

  • Updated Campaign Overview: planning, execution and performance for a campaign in one place.
  • Post-send link editing: the destination URL of a tracked link can be changed after an email has gone out, but this is done by Salesforce Customer Support on request, not by you in the interface. Useful in an incident; not a substitute for link QA.
  • Distributed Marketing alerts: required phrases and character limits can be enforced inside templates, with Agentforce recommending templates to sales users.
  • Agentforce for marketing flows: describe an automation, a multichannel message or a segment in natural language and get a complete flow back to review before it runs.

Data 360: describe the audience, then check the matches

Agentic Segmentation and Activation lets a marketer describe a target audience in plain language; the Segmentation agent builds it on Data 360 data and verifies it, and an Activation agent sets up and validates the activation across ad platforms before anything is deployed. Data 360 ships more often than the core release, so check the October notes rather than the Winter '27 hub alone.

Reported alongside it are expanded default identity resolution rules, combining fuzzy name matching with normalised email, phone and address. Confirm the detail in your own org, because a change to default match rules changes which records become one unified individual.

What Marketing Cloud Engagement got

A guided connection to Data 360 through Salesforce Go, covering data streams, consent mapping, user access and performance intelligence, so an Engagement account can feed Marketing Cloud Next without the manual wiring. The Engagement MCP server also gains more tools for driving automations, content and records from external agents.

What we would actually do this quarter

  1. Finish upgrade readiness before 9 October. Run your regression pack in a preview sandbox and read the Marketing section of the notes for your edition. Two weeks is enough if you start now.
  2. Write the guardrails the agents will need. Brand guidelines in a form the platform can consume, an approval matrix by communication category, and campaign budgets as numbers. This is useful whether or not the pilots reach you this year.
  3. Retire single-purpose flows in favour of completion actions where the flow only notifies, autoresponds or assigns. Keep an owner for every routing rule.
  4. Assign the deliverability alert. One named person, a three-step first response, and the authority to pause a send.
  5. Re-test identity resolution before and after the upgrade and compare unified individual counts.
  6. If you run Engagement, stand up the guided Data 360 connection in a sandbox and document what your consent mapping looks like on the other side.

One caveat on everything above

Release notes describe what shipped, not what is switched on in your org. Availability varies by edition, SKU and region, the two marketing agents are in pilot, and several channel features consume add-on credits or need a higher SKU. Check your own entitlements in Setup before you plan around anything here, or ask us and we will check with you.
